About RGS Architectural Design Consultants

After many years in the building industry, it was time to start up in business. Having gathered together a vast knowledge and experience it was to be the start of a business that would provide a personal, efficient and friendly service for all types of projects, liaising with clients, council officials and contractors to ensure smooth running of projects.

RGS Design undertakes a wide range of projects, all delivered to the full satisfaction of clients and associated parties. From the initial client consultation and site survey, we develop sketched proposals based on the client’s brief for discussion and refinement.

We then prepare detailed drawings and specifications for planning and building warrant applications and, where required, issue tender documentation. Our service continues through securing approvals, appointing a suitable contractor, supervising works on site, and ultimately achieving the final completion certificate.

RGS DESIGN was started in November 2002 by Bob Smith, following around 12years employment experience in Architectural Practice within the construction industry.

Bob felt it was time to start providing a service to clients in a self-employed capacity, which would allow him a little more flexibility in work/life balance, as long as the hours were put in, he could see that his own business would be successful, and being reliant on the vast knowledge gathered from previous projects.

Initially the company was based from home in a lovely village called St. Cyrus, just a few miles north of Montrose on the east coast of Scotland, where Bob was well equipped to service clients in Angus & Aberdeenshire area, and obviously Arbroath (Bob is still very proud of being a Red Lichtie). Eventually being able to design and build a log cabin in the garden, which was used as the office.

RGS DESIGN completed many projects ranging from small front porch extensions through to one-off house designs, extensions and alterations to licensed premises (mainly the local licensed establishment which was at the bottom of the garden), along with steading/barn conversions.

In 2012 Bob and his wife Angie decided it was time for a change of scenery, and plumped for a move 600miles to the south west coast of England, RGS DESIGN now being based in Brixham.

RGS DESIGN now has an established client base on the south coast of England as well as on the north east coast of Scotland.
